Inside Source: Security Forces Sweep through Idlib Province

Security forces made yet another sweep through Idlib province Monday morning. Security forces stationed in Idlib city and Ariha left Tuesday morning, sweeping through the province in two directions. One security sweep went along the road leading to the border town of Jisr Al'Shaghour. A massive arrest campaign swept through the villages of Al'Besheerah, Maraj Al'Jahour, and Fareekah. From there, security forces swept through numerous border villages making arrests and shelling some of the town. Activists say residents of border towns were being punished for helping Syrians cross the border into Turkey. Explosions were apparently loud enough to be heard by Syrian refugees across the Turkish border.

The second sweep left from the town of Ariha and headed on the road leading to Ma'raat Al'Numan. Massive arrests took place in the town of Khan Al'Sabeel, in which more than 100 people were detained. The villages of Ahsim, Al'Bareh, Al'Rami and Maraean which are located in the Jabal Az-Awiya region were shot at randomly by tanks and another 35 people were also arrested. Activists also report that one person in a Syrian refugee camp across the Turkish border was shot dead by a sniper from across the border.

Protests took place around 8pm in the following places: Sarqab, Idlib city, Tafatanz, Binnish, Kafr Takharim, Jabal Az-Awiya, Ma'arrat Al'Numan, Jarjanaz, Telminis, Khan Sheikhoun and Ma'arrat Harmat. There were also sporadic demonstrations in other smaller villages around the province. Protesters demanded the fall of the regime, the execution of the president and demanded that the UN intervene to protect civilians from being killed by security forces.
