Inside Source: Updates From Around Syria From 9/12-9/14

The telecommunications over the last three days has been severely disrupted by the regime and so it has been hard to get in touch with friends and find out the situation. I was able to get into contact with them on and off over the past 14 hours and they have compiled a long report spanning for the past three days, all of which is posted below. I have tried to break the information up by date and of course by province.


9/12/11
Hama province: Discovery of a mass grave in an orchard in Qalaat Al’Madeeq. A number of bodies were also found in the Al’Ghab plain. The body of a slain protester from Al’Boweeb was found in the Safouhan mosque. One person was seriously injured at Qalaat Al’Madeeq, close to Al’Howoush.

Idlib province: Several residents of the village of Kafr Aweed in the Jabal Az-Awiya region were injured.

The names of those killed who have been identified are the following: Mohammed Mustafa Suleiman Al’Mousabeen, Naseem Abdo Falah, Baseem Abdo Falah, Mousab Azou Athamat. The following people are known to have been arrested: Abd Karim Hassan Al’Atowk, Ahmed Hassan Al’Atowk, Ahmed Qitash, Abd Karim Al’Qasim, Audi Basous, Mohammed Karmou Al’Lawli, Fadi Adnan Al’Qasim, Shadi Adnan Al’Qasim.

9/13/11 
Idlib province:

Town of Ariha: Mig fighters flew low over the city to intimidate the town’s residents and the fighters are believed to have headed for the areas of Jabal Az-Awiya and the Al’Ghab plain. Also, a strike force from the State security branch was along with elements of the Army’s armored division, which consists of armored personnel carriers carrying large caliber machineguns were seen on the route towards Ariha.

Town of Hazajou: Protesters gathered in the main square for a demonstration in Hazajou condemning Russia for not condemning the Assad regime, calling for the fall of the regime and the execution of the president.

Town of Ma’arrat Al’Numan: Army and security forces full occupy the town now. While an uneasy calm prevailed for a little bit of time, the regime has instituted a new tactic of flying Mig fighters over the town and breaking the sound barrier to scare people into staying in their homes instead of attending protests. At 12pm all the minarets in the town were commanded to broadcast the following: motorcycles were strictly prohibited after 7pm, whether regular or contraband.

Sarqab: There was a demonstration in which protesters condemns Russia’s position in regards to Syria and burned the Russian flag.

Kafr Nabil: Protesters took part in demonstrations demanding freedom and the fall of the regime despite a heavy military presence and the presence of armed gangs who support the regime.

Khan Sheikhoun: Security forces raided the village and conducted random arrests. Gunfire was also heard from the green market.

Jabal Az-Awiya region: Gangs loyal to the regime came from the village of Bisnaqoul and fired heavy machine guns and artillery, conducting raids, arresting some young people and burning a number of motorcycles. The gangs then headed towards the Al’Ghab plain. Activists were unsure of their next destination.

Sermeen: Power was cut to the entire area in conjunction with the rally of what activists describe as “enormous number of tanks” in front of the youth camp near the southern part of Sarmeen and there are fears of a major military operation to come in the region.

City of Idlib: There was a demonstration in the marketplace in which demonstrators expressed their anger at Russia and the Russian flag was burned. IMPORTANT: security forces have removed 3 new bodies to the hospital in Ma’arrat Al’Numan. There is also news of the arrival of 31 bodies at the national hospitals in the province. The identities of these bodies are not known.

Hama province:
The Al’Ghab Plain: There was a funeral for those who have died in the days before in the village of Al’Hawoush. Security forces surrounded the funeral and began beating people with the butts of their machine guns. 3 people were killed as a result of the beatings: Muhammad Mustafa Mawas a writer from Al’Hawoush, Ibrahim Mahmoud Barrawi of Tueni and Mohammed Raadona. Security forces were also hunting for two youths from the area of Qalaat Al’Madeeq. Also, 11 bodies (their names are unkown) were found in an orchard in the Qalaat Al’Madeeq. Security forces also shot and killed 15 sheep and 4 cows owned by residents in Qalaat Al’Madeeq.

Turkish border with Idlib Province: people residing in a refugee camp on the Syrian side next to the Turkish border were forced to flee when security forces came and arrested dozens of people from the camp and also stormed to border town of Khirbet Al'Jowz in front of the Turkish army, which only watche and did nothing. Security forces burned the tents of refugees and several houses within the village of  and the burning of the tents that were home to families for months and the burning of several houses in the village.

Jisr Al'Shaghour: Gangs loyal to the regime burned dozens of cars located on the Syrian-Turkish border in the village of Khirbet Al'Jowz left behind by residents before their displacement to Turkey.

Jabal Az-Awiya: In the morning,  security forces in armored vehicles and buses stormed all the western villages of Jabal Az-Awiya including: Josef, Maraatat, Ibleen, Bilyoun, Ibdeeta, Kinsafrah, Bassamis, Mashoun, Ein Larouz, Al'Mouzrah Hazirin and were advancing towards the rest of the villages of Safahoun Al'Fateerah and Kafr Aweed. This was an unprecedently large force and there was very heavy gunfire and the telecommunications network was shut down. In Mashoun powerful explosions could be heard. The villages of Josef and Ibleen experienced artillary fire from tanks. Security forces that stormed Ibdeeta fired at random when entering the village.

There were also unconfirmed reports that a cargo or military plane landed at an airport in Idlib province carrying supplies and equipment of Iranian origin.

Al'Habit: 50 buses and armored vehicles carrying security forces and Shabiha from the city of Khan Sheikhoun were headed towards the village of Kafr Aein and the countryside of Hama. Lots of heavy gunfire could be heard.

Damascus province:
Dariya Suburbs. One of the the activists ( his name is Ayman) arrested with slain activist Ghiath Matar was released while another activist named Iyad was still in detention.

Hama province:
Activists report the dissappearance of Abdul Razzaq al-Bashir, age 45. He has been missing for 4 days and there is no information regarding his disappearance. Activists have asked that anyone who has any information regarding his whereabouts contact the LCC and hold the Syrian authorities responsible for his disappearance.

Area of Kafr Naboudah: Security forces and the Shabiha stationed in the town have spread out snipers on the rooftops of buildings in order to intimidate and prevent residents from leaving their homes to attend demonstrations.
Area of Kafr Zaeta: warplanes flew low over the town to intimidate residents.

The following people are confirmed dead today: Maseer Al’Masbah (Libana, Hama), Mohammad Al’Jamal (Al’Howejah, Hama), Mohammad Nasr Saker (Al’Bab, Aleppo), Farouq Al’Jowri (Bab Amrou, Homs) and Yaseen Al’Daher (Bab Sabaou, Homs).
